@mouseabolition: i feel very protective of people affected by misogyny and extreme hatred towards those who perpetuate it what else is new #kennarambles
My mother was 18/19 the year woman could start having their own bank account.

My mother, born in the 50s, once said to me, ‘women have it pretty great now’. And I had no response bc no we don’t, but from her perspective yes we do things are so much better. I think about that a lot.

Lol just did the math, my mother was 21 before it was legal to have her own bank account which I think would make my (never married) aunt 26?? I now wonder how exactly they managed that. Did their dad have one for them? All cash? Who knows

I was telling my mom about buying some thunderthigh socks, and the face she made was some inexplicable mix of confusion and sad nostalgia at the idea that a brand would be called that, and I could just say that about my body in a neutral/positive way. Cause she got so used to thinking about certain of her attributes as bad.
And she is way less critical than most of my friends' moms, mostly just avoiding talking about stuff she doesnt like, but sometimes I get a glimpse that its in there bothering *her* still

the way my mother tries to uphold misogyny in her marriage more than my dad ever has 💀 it’s like she can’t comprehend having rights bc she was born in the late 50s and was military

I work with a lot of elderly women in the public library and so many of them tell me about their awful husbands and tell me to wait to get married if I’m thinking about it. So grateful to be able to wait and to choose not to be married if I don’t want to be. Furious and heartbroken they didn’t have that choice.

I feel like women raised the bar and that's why everyone is struggling to find long term matches. meanwhile, the men are running the same old song and dance

I’m 58. My mom was fired for getting pregnant with me. I remember going to the bank with her hidden cash when she could finally get a bank account in her name only. She told me to always have my own $$.

Sometimes think about the fact that my grandmother one day told me that “sometimes I wish my daddy had let me go to school instead of making me get married” I was like 11.

working front desk is like a front row seat to misogyny and hell. anytime a man would do that i would just straight up ignore him and only speak to the wife. i start getting yelled at? “i would be happy to continue this conversation once you calm down.” and walk away to my manager

The worst part about that interaction with the older woman is that she probably looked nice either way, but has been taught that without makeup and daily skin care she looks like a troll. Down with beauty standards.

every time especially an older woman apologizes, i always ask her "why? you didn't do anything wrong to deserve an apology." and this always seems to help them feel better.

me with one of my coworkers, like it’s so clear to me that she’s got some deep seated issues that she’ll never address bc she simply has too much to do. AND i have to pretend to not hate her husband even a little it’s hard

My aunt was only four years away from when she got married when it became legal for her to have her own bank account and she’s so nonchalant about it as if she didn’t have her rights withheld for a whole chunk of her life
