When I first entered the TikTok universe, I used the name #PainDoesntHurtHealingDoes. I was at the beginning of my sobriety journey then. And looking back, I realize something… I only understood the pain part of that name. I knew how to hurt. I knew how to bury shit. I knew how to smile when I wasn’t okay, push harder when I was exhausted, and keep moving because stopping meant I might actually have to feel everything I had spent years running from. But healing? I didn’t know a fucking thing about healing. Here we are two years later, and I’m finally starting to understand why I put those words together all those years ago. Healing is the struggles. The grind. The tears nobody sees. The failures. The uncomfortable conversations. The mental health battles. The days you look in the mirror and aren’t particularly proud of the person looking back. The “I don’t know if I can keep doing this” days. And then somehow… you do. Sobriety taught me how to stop destroying myself. Healing is teaching me how to love the person I saved. And fuck, sometimes that’s been harder. Because pain became familiar. I knew how to survive there. Healing asks me to go back and look at things I spent a lifetime trying not to see. To acknowledge what happened. To own the things I’ve done. To forgive what I can. To accept what I can’t change. And then somehow find joy in the person all of it is creating. Maybe that’s why those words found me before I was ready to understand them. Pain doesn’t hurt, healing does. Pain was familiar. Healing requires change. But for the first time in my life, I’m starting to believe the man waiting on the other side of all this is worth every fucking tear it takes to meet him. Two years ago, I was learning how to stay. Today, I’m learning how to live. And I’m not fucking giving up now. 🖤 #PainDoesntHurtHealingDoes #Mindset #Motivation #WeDoRecover
