this is called Frame Interpolation. Your phone probably cannot actually shoot whatever FPS it says, so every other frame is and interpolation of the frame before and after it

Fucking LOVE how many people are in the comments confidently saying this isn't generative AI when it's no secret that Samsung's instant slow-mo feature uses generative AI (and if this was filmed on an iPhone then there would be no interpolation at all) 🙄🙄 Takes a grand total of one fucking google search to fact check before you comment, but no - let's all of us make the same completely incorrect comment over and over, shall we?

Everyone saying "Uh it's frame interpolation". Yes, but you're also in the wrong for pointing it out cause it's also wrong. Frame interpolation is a post-process where an image is inserted BETWEEN frames. These are not inserted between, these are guessworks using hope instead of the following frame.

not saying you're wrong, but this is probably a form of frame interpolation; an algorithm designed to sort of cover for missing frames in areas of high movement. (it is not new, processers have just gotten better to the point it is more available). since videos are just a series of stitched frames (pictures), a video has a set number of frames when taken. the more you slow it down, the longer those frames last (until it starts to look like a slideshow). to avoid that, frame interpolation tries to compensate in areas with high changes between frames and tries to make in-between frames. it's not great (especially when slowed down), but it's a nice way to use software to overcome hardware shortfalls. speed it down less or improve your frame rate and it will go away.
