I don't think it's about the time, it's more about what you do in that time that helps you get over it. for some people it's easier to stay stuck in misery and with a victim mentality and it doesn't get them anywhere. therapy is step one!

9 years out. He was my world and he cheated and destroyed me. I no longer want him but I do miss having a husband and one household for my kids. The special person to fold into when life gets hard. I was so happy married but I’m also now so happy single that anyone else really has to add something to my life to even have a chance.

100 percent! Even though I didn’t choose this, I refuse to give into the fact this will rewrite my future. It has been four years, I still struggle but it gets easier to move through the rough moments when you remind yourself your okay🙏🏻

I always told my friends it was like a death. Unfortunately if you haven’t gone through a divorce you just don’t understand.

How about those women who were betrayed and never signed up for this? What are they still grieving?? I didn’t choose this. Somebody chose it for me. Try grieving that.

You can still know you’ve made the right decision and wish for the life you thought you were going to have. It’s situational grief really…when I’m sick and don’t have help, when I’m at a wedding and see hope, when I see families. Ten years later it’s still stinks sometimes, but with they said- thank the lord.

I’m grieving my dream house which I paid for and he took. After 24 years. I worked all my life to pay for that house. I’ll hate him for this forever.

I’ve been divorced 17 years I was married 15 I’m best friends with my ex-husband and I do like his new wife, but I grieve the fact that I got him to where he is and now he’s happy where he is and I understand that it’s just all those things should’ve been mine. I got him where he is and now you get to enjoy the healed more educated husband that I should’ve had.

I moved out two weeks ago. Married 19 years. He is an alcoholic and I was slowly dying trying to love him. You’d think I would be excited. I know my life will be better. But in the meantime I’m grieving the life I tried so hard to hang on to.

I’m 60 and it’s been four years exactly this month for me and I’m slowly getting my light back. We’d been together since 2002. He actually just got remarried last month. I have and still am taking the time to do the work and heal and work on myself. I have more good days than bad and I think that’s going to happen for a long time. I just need to not be so hard on myself when I do have bad days and can’t get off the couch on the weekends. I have tons of plans in my head but have zero energy to do them. I’ll get there some day. We will all get there some day.

X changed literally over night. I’ve since learned it was covert narcissism. 30 years in it was over. I wish I knew then what I know now, but that’s why we lasted so long. He claims he has little to no memory of our lives together 😂 so not only did he destroy our family, destroyed the future I thought we were building, he deleted the past. I may as well have not existed at all. Moving past it but it sure is hard sometimes.

I grieve of being taken advantage of, and how stupid I was. For me it’s the role I played in staying for too long.

Next week will be 9 years divorced and 2 years before that separated. The grief doesn’t go away. You just get better at handeling it. I’m 60 and looking/moving forward every day.

I hate it, I can sit here and say why am I still crying over him? It’s been just over a year and he married her. I don’t want him anyway. But I’m grieving the idea that “my person” betrayed me and kicked me out of our home to live her in and then get divorced so her can marry her right away. My grief is what about all the plans we had, what about our love, how did you tell me I was you one true love just 2 weeks before I heard you telling her what a monster I was. I don’t even know if I’m grieving or my feelings are hurt. I

It sure does take time and it’s definitely not linear, highs and lows all along the way.💙💙💙 if I can offer some advice….. be kind to yourself and hang onto your dignity.

I'm early in the process and I'm struggling with it. My SIL says he has the future all planned out with his affair partner, and I can't help but think how that was supposed to be my future.

Yep. I’m 3 years out & I rebuilt a good life from the ground up. And it still washes over me in waves sometimes. The grief for what I had hoped for my life and what I will never have now. I will never have the long term partner or the family I had hoped for.
