what I learned after making and wear-testing my first air-dry clay bag charm prototype 🗝️⭐️🐰 1. to help prevent your air-dry clay from cracking as it dries, slow down the drying process. wrap your charm loosely in cling wrap while it dries, then gradually let more air in over time. the slower drying helps the clay release moisture more evenly, which can reduce cracking. 2. if there’s cracking after your charm has fully dried, you can fill in the cracks with a watered-down clay mixture. 3. one thing I’ve noticed since carrying this charm on my going-out bag, (which has seen a lot of action) is that it can get dirty. a good way to clean it off is by using alcohol wipes or soap and water. 4. use stainless steel wire instead of aluminum wire — it’s way stronger. (don’t make my mistake) 😭 invest in wire cutters! (so far the aluminum wire I used on this miffy charm is holding up okay its been a month) 5. durability tip: curve your wire at the end and add adhesive before pushing it into your charm. this helps anchor it so it’s less likely to slide out later! 6. I would highly recommend using a UV resin to coat charms for increased durability and ease of application compared to epoxy resin. UV resin is generally less prone to yellowing than epoxy resin, especially after sun exposure — but I’m still testing both over time. epoxy resin can take days to fully cure, while UV resin cures in minutes, which makes it way easier for last-minute market prep. there’s also way less cleanup and mess with UV resin. 7. always work in a well-ventilated space and wear gloves. still testing, still learning, still taking notes. bag charm makers, what would you add? also I’m looking for techniques for cleaning brushes after using UV resin and ways to prevent tackiness after curing!!! #airdryclay #DIY #bagcharms #artsandcraft #tipsandtricks
