Hi! I'm actually curious of something. My best friend has been dating someone for around 6 months while having MANY breakups during their time together. And for some days, she has been talking to me and crying to me about him. He was mean and toxic to her, and he was really jealous often. So she asked me once if she should break up with him, and I said "yes." ONLY because her ex was just as mean and possessive to her. Now, she apparently says she got over him but I don't know... She still has her ex's contact and is in a GC where her ex is in. And basically, I don't know what to do. What do I do about it?

Thanks for this reminder. i needed to hear it, because I am often way too quick to "man, FUCK that guy! Why are you with someone who does that to you??" when someone i care about is being hurt/disrespected.

I knew I had to dump my guy when my friend told me “you bitch about him daily and I’m tired of hearing about it. Dump him or shut the hell up already” he was gone by end of the week.

I will try to keep that in mind cause sometimes is hard not to jump straight to "just dump his ass"

100% I was in an emotionally abusive marriage for five years, and it wasn’t until I got asked various about my experience and feelings, and when I saw how other people were treated respectfully with their partners, that I decided I needed to leave asap. The people who said “just dump him” did make me defensive even though I knew they were probably right deep down. I ended up avoiding them as well because I felt embarrassed. Even having gone through this experience, I know how hard it is to have to hold back from saying to others going through this kind of thing “OMG he’s a walking red flag dump him!!!”

I let my best friend stayed married to her cheating husband for 9 years until they got divorced. I supported her through it all.

I know I drove my ex bff insane 😆 I used to tell her, "I know I'm always complaining about him, but only because it's the bad stuff that bothers me. He has lots of good qualities, but if I just talk about those, it will sound like I'm bragging" 🤡 She was the one always telling me, "Just dump him!" And I should have listened 🤦

This was perfectly said.... it's hard sometimes, especially when you feel protective of your friend, but this is true. We leave when we have a safe space to share and a friend we feel will show up when we know we will need them.
