Brianna Ghey was 16 years old when she was murdered in a premeditated attack. She was a 16 year old girl robbed of a future because she was trans. Yesterday Rishi Sunak, and not for the first time, used PMQs to attack Keir Starmer for not being able to define what a woman is. Brianna Ghey's mum was present in the house of commons at the time, and her dad has since condemned Rishi for his dehumanising language. Rishi Sunak and his cronies have been stoking culture wars for the last few years - blaming the most vulnerable people in society for the problems we face. Because the truth is: they ruined this country. They are responsible for record waiting times, for crumbling schools, for lack of affordable housing, for the public services being on its knees. They can't blame Labour because they haven't been in power, so they make up false threats and attack the most vulnerable in society. But language and stoking division have real life consequences. The words used by our leaders also tell the rest of society that it's ok to target and dehumanise the trans community. Let's be clear, taking away trans rights does not protect women and girls. Trans women are also victims of male violence and our biggest threat is cis men. Feminism is about equality and that means equality for everyone. If Rishi really cares about women, he should focus on tackling male violence, ensuring rape convictions improve, decriminalising abortion, and fixing our childcare system. Trans people deserve to live long and happy lives. Brianna deserved to live a long and happy life. ❤️🙏🏼
