@africansc4mmer: now i suggest you ask questions and be polite and share your own knowledge if you understand what i’m talking about. if you talk anyhow i will not hesistate to reply you and you’ll not like it. you’ll wish i blocked you instead #fyp #gender
people are so stupidly oblivious. NO. YOUR SEXUAL ORGANS AND FEATURES ARE NOT A CONSTRUCT. them being recognized as something (male, female) IS A CONSTRUCT.

sex is a social construct because sex can be determined by many factors (sex chromosomes, genes, hormones, ovaries or testes, egg or semen and i could go on) and each of them are dumbed down and simplified into two categories to make it easier to navigate and understand the world (aka a social construct). sex is used to justify gender, which is why the main argument against “gender is a social construct” is “but you have a penis/xy and a vagina/xx”, which is also why you won’t understand if i told you that a woman who was 95% “biologically male” gave birth just fine, or that 2% of the population are born with sex traits that do not fit the typical male or female sex (that’s the same percentage of people born with red hair) it suddenly makes things harder to comprehend

just like a tomato being a fruit and a whale being a mammal. humans made words to try to categorise reality and those words and ideas are far from infallible

I feel like sex should only matter when your at the doctor beacuse female and male bodies are somewhat diferent. It should be like your type of blood, not something people should care about unless it’s necessary. Does it make sense?? 😭😭

Let me see if i understand this, and correct me if im wrong!! Sex can be seen as a social construct because of the way we characterize sex. There's primary sex characteristics (PSC), and secondary sex characteristics (SSC). PSC account for ones genitalia, and SSC accounts for things that arise during puberty, like breasts or facial hair. However, we know PSC and SSC don't exist in a binary. There are people who are intersex, men who develop breasts, and women who grow favial hair. Thus, the sex-binary which we live in is socially constructed.

studying neuroscience and fetal development in psychology truly depicts how insanely restrictive our view of sexual characteristics are

Biologically not really . Males and Females are different for a reason (Reproduction. ) Curious how you hold this non materialist position as a communist

I thought gender was a social construct whereas sex was biological, and that’s, at least in the most simplistic sense, where they differ, curious to hear your argument/opinion, cause I’m a little confused

Yes because our understanding of sex is confined by the language we use to describe it! For example, plant and invertebrates reproduce in ways completely separate from our biology, and yet our current state of science would still describe certain reproductive organs as male and female, similarly this applies to humans and our exclusion of intersex ppls
