Every one of these has a voice and a deadline and a consequence for being ignored and so every one of them gets served, faithfully, month after month, without ever having to ask twice. Your future self has no voice. Cannot call. Cannot send a reminder. Cannot make a case for why they matter. They just wait. And receive whatever is left. Which, for most people, is nothing at all. If you have been earning for ten years and there is nothing set aside, you have not been unlucky. You have been making a choice; quietly, monthly, without ever framing it as a choice. Not what is left. There is never anything left. The first portion. The one that leaves before anything else has a claim on it. Do that for ten years and the person waiting at the end of your working life will not be poor. They will be held by the version of you that decided, on an ordinary payday, that their future was worth more than the noise of the present.
