@letsbetechs: Just a quick overview on a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) that decided to play mind games with me today! Naturally, it ran like a charm the entire time tech support was on the phone. But since it was the last call of the day, the moment tech support hung up, it immediately dropped out. A quick "percussive maintenance" tap got it spinning once, but after that... completely dead. We've got it bypassed for now until the replacement drive arrives. 💡 Quick VFD Refresh: 60 Hz = 100% full motor speed 45 Hz = 75% speed 30 Hz = 50% speed (Technically, VFDs can ramp past 60 Hz, but unless you want to cook a standard motor, it's usually best to keep it capped!) #hvac #hvacapprentice #hvactechnician #hvaclife #vfd

The VFD wasn’t pitched towards the motor. Voltage doesn’t roll uphill. 😂

Your at a CVS. Some slick salesman sold them add on VFD for the blower. They went to just about every CVS store on the east usa installed them on every unit that didn't have 1..We'll the units was not designed for a vfd.. (Constant velocity unit). You did the best thing. I also see the gas lines has been repainted. We had 2 guys. Dedicated to nothing but paint those gas lines for a solid year. 1 of them said he never wants to see yellow paint again. lol!! We do replace the VFD that are not warranty from that company. I think warranty is about up on all of them. . we noticed heat exchangers failing prematurely and couple compressors on the older r22 units. Anyways..have a good day

you had a frequency ref but the DRV light wasn't on so it isn't going to output voltage to the motor. looks like LORE isn't the problem. likely either the signal to the S terminals (to drive the inverter) is the issue or we're getting the signal and the board the S terminals are on is the issue.
I work in industrial manufacturing and we use these Yaskawas on all of our equipment. surprised to see it in HVAC lol

throw three pole contactor on there and call it a day that vfd is probably over a thousand bucks and you got to wait weeks for it to come in

we usually just put a contactor next to it and run some low volt wire to G and C...never know how long youll wait for a replacement VFD or whether the one that gets sent, if its the right one or not.

Doesn’t suck how all this energy efficient and environmental BS makes everything more overly complicated then has to be? Thanks federal govt.

I offered that as a solution at a large chain convenience store here in Canada but code would not allow it, no longer have any overload protection

VFD’s biggest farce ever, but it’ll save you lots of money 😂 if I had a nickel for every time we installed brand new RTU with VFD DOA POS wait until client has to replace it lol

Did you check output voltage? Did you check the reference? Did you hit stop while it was running? I’ve never had a Yaskawa drive show a hz presence out and have a bad drive
