i think what makes these characters so easy to hate is the fact that we see ourselves in them. i think shinji’s insecurities and constantly feeling like he’s not capable is something that we can all relate to at some point in life, which makes it frustrating and annoying to watch. just like how you can hate asuka because she carries herself so arrogantly, and is constantly trying to put others down to diminish her own insecurities. we all know someone like asuka and some of us have even been asuka
