And how to prevent it 👇🏽 Here are the top 5 tips to get the perfect clearance on your 3D printed parts. 1️⃣ ADD CLEARANCE TO THE DESIGN ITSELF Solution: Leave a 0.2mm clearance on your design to compensate for shrinkage or surface artifacts. 3D print a "clearance test" to know your 3D printer’s clearance limit. 2️⃣ TWEAK CLEARANCE ON YOUR SLICER Solution: Use the “X-Y contour compensation” setting in your slicer to adjust clearance. This works great when printing downloaded models that have no clearance. A 0.1mm adjustment can make a big difference. 3️⃣ ROUND YOUR DESIGN’S EDGES Solution: If you’re designing two parts that must fit, round the design’s edges, even just 1-2mm. This will reduce bulging or protruding corners, which is the biggest reason for clearance issues. 4️⃣ CHAMFER THE BOTTOM Solution: Adding a 1mm chamfer to the bottomof all your parts will reduce “elephant foot” and other first layer issues that may affect clearance. 5️⃣ FILLET THE TOP AND LID EDGE Solution: A slight curve on the lid’s edge will create a self-aligning feature and improve the interface. BONUS: CAREFUL WITH EXOTIC MATERIALS Solution: Use quality filaments and fine-tune the flow percentage to avoid over-extrusion. Specialty filaments like wood-filled PLA or composites will probably require generous clearance in the design due to inconsistent line width. Do you have any other tips?
