Dishonorable discharge is reserved for Murder/manslaughter, Fraud, Desertion, Treason, Espionage, Sexual assault, and Being absent without leave (AWOL). So that means is someone has a dishonorable discharge they committed one of those crimes to get that and most likely would have gone to a military prison. Any other punitive discharge would be a bad conduct discharge

JAG here—you can only get a bad conduct discharge or a dishonorable discharge as part of a sentence from a court martial. No one can “threaten” you with one. It has to be adjudged.

I've seen one. Marine stabbed his Gunny about a dozen times while we were out at sea. Nearly killed him. Dishonorable discharge and a hefty sentence in prison for attempted murder.

My dad was dishonorably discharged from the marines in the 90s for smoking weed. I was still raised like he was a marine 🤣

Had a guy cheat on his wife (who was also in the unit) with a pvt in our company, not show up to work for months, steal, lie on record, threaten and intimidate others into giving false reports; AND HE STILL ONLY GOT A GENERAL DISCHARGE. Yes if you get a bad chicken dinner, you are a Batman villain 😂

The phrase don't judge a book by its cover is one of the dumbest phrases. The cover is supposed to convince you that the product is worth something.

I've seen multiple dishonorable discharges. But only during the times when I was working the brig lol. No need to "think" that they did some horrible shit, it usually was. At minimum a felony charge. Rape, stabbing/assult, attempted murder, and really really bad cases of abuse were the most common to come through

I knew a guy who got one. He was stealing military tasers and selling them on the streets. 😳 That’s what he got dishonorable discharge for. He also ended up in the military because he got busted selling drugs and the court told him enlist or jail. This was the height of the Afghan War. So he wasn’t exactly in there for honorable reasons to begin with. 😅

I have a buddy whose uncle claims that the Marines gave him a dishonorable discharge because they found a bag of weed in his bunk. Now I'm starting to wonder if the reason for his discharge is true or not, lol.
