@bull52772: History is rarely as simple as one quote or one document. Context matters. In this video, I explain why the Treaty of Tripoli is so often misunderstood and why the historical timeline surrounding the Barbary Wars is important to the conversation. Whether you agree with me or not, I hope you’ll look at the full context before drawing a conclusion. The opening invocation of the Treaty of Paris (1783) states: "In the name of the most holy and undivided Trinity," followed by declaring the definitive treaty of peace and friendship between His Britannic Majesty and the United States of America. hmm I wonder why there's trinity there 1783.

The Founding Fathers did not all belong to the same religion, and it is inaccurate to describe them as a single religious group. Many were raised in Christian denominations, but several of the most influential founders were influenced by Deism, Enlightenment philosophy, or forms of Christianity that differed from traditional church doctrine. Deism was especially influential among some founders. Deists generally believed in a creator or higher power based on reason and nature, but they often rejected the idea that God intervenes directly in human affairs through miracles, divine revelation, or organized religion. Some founders associated with Deist ideas include Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Paine. Jefferson, for example, rejected many traditional Christian doctrines and created what is known as the Jefferson Bible, in which he removed supernatural elements and focused on the moral teachings of Jesus. Thomas Jefferson was raised Anglican but became critical of traditional Christianity. He believed in God and admired Jesus’s ethical teachings, but he rejected doctrines such as the Trinity and miracles. Source: Thomas Jefferson, The Jefferson Bible; Library of Congress. Benjamin Franklin was raised Presbyterian but later expressed Deist beliefs. In his autobiography, Franklin described his belief in a creator who established the universe and moral principles, while also emphasizing reason and virtue over religious institutions. Source: Benjamin Franklin, The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. Thomas Paine, author of Common Sense and The Age of Reason, openly identified as a Deist. He criticized organized religion and argued that belief should be based on reason and nature rather than revelation. Source: Thomas Paine, The Age of Reason (1794).

We are not a Christian nation. We are a nation that allows you to be Christian or what religion you want to believe, not believe or follow. The founding fathers while yes many were Christian a lot of them were Diest who sought the country's founding through enlightenment not just through Christian traditions. The Creator is a reference to Nature's God not the Judeo- Christian version. This is why our country was founded on secular principles as well reasoning rather than dogmatic beliefs.

Darn that dude blocked me or deleted his comment bc I was schooling him! All bc I said when it comes to these debates they leave the OG 13 original state constitution out which is disingenuous bc all 13 of the original states mentioned God or divine authority in their founding documents, and the vast majority used specific Christian terms like "Protestant," "Christian," or the "Old and New Testaments" to govern their societies. in political science and historical context, "nation" or "state-nation" is often used as a synonym for a fully sovereign state. When the 13 colonies declared independence from Great Britain in 1776, they viewed themselves not as provinces of a single country, but as 13 separate, sovereign countries—effectively 13 distinct nations!! Before 1861, this "state-first" reality dominated American politics, law, and daily life. So when we are talking about the founding we have to put it in historical context!!
