I just felt his “apology” was shifting blame to everyone who got offended by him because it’s our fault we allowed ourselves to feel offended in the first place. He changed the narrative, and added unnecessary context to try and make his response more valid. Every woman has dealt with this type of “apology” before, he can’t take criticism nor accountability for why people reacted the way they did. That’s ego, not reflection. He wants to be a victim in a situation he created. While yes, people attacked in ways that were wrong he is solely focusing on that because it will gain more sympathy. He is intentionally ignoring all the creative criticism and feedback from his peers because that requires reflection, accountability and acknowledgment and he isn’t there yet emotionally. I appreciate when doctors are open to critique from their peers because it’s shows they are humble enough to accept others shared perspectives.

Peter Attia, Betsy Grunch, this. I had taken an approach to not comment on individuals and I think this was a validation of that, even if the underlying topics associated with those controversies are all super important so I can certainly see why others engage.

It’s also important to know that if you create content, you could be a grandma knitting a sweater and people will comment something negative. It is tough being a content creator no matter who you are. When you post controversial content, it is even more brutal.

I vividly recalled your stitch and was super confused why he included a thumbnail of yours in his recent video! You kept it general, never called for him to be penalized, much less bullied, and really focused on professionalism (from what I can recall). You and other professionals are allowed to not like his content. He should sit with that, as does any other licensed professional who is subject to a code of conduct. Unfortunately, the extreme harassment and threats that he received have probably made him associate ANY criticism with unjust attacks. 🫤 Like you, I hope he does well and never gets to that headspace again. I also hope he rethinks his online content.

Ooooh you hit the nail on the head. How the messenger receives the message is something you cannot control when you put content out there. Which is why it’s wise to always err on the side of caution when making videos and thinking through how an audience may perceive something.

two things can be true at the same time. His content was inappropriate, but as always, the internet was extreme with how they handled it. I will stand by the fact that patients go through enough, and they shouldn't be the butt of anyone's joke, but I would never want someone to take their life over social media either.

I was so disappointed by his answer video. It was such a great opportunity to reflect and empathize with those he was hurting, then apologize and move on. His take is very defensive and it worries me that he will have a similar approach when it comes to patient care.
