they're just contributing to deregulate and imbalance the ecosystems. The ecosystems in the desert need certain conditions to live, this would change it overtime and it's putting them in danger.

Would the desert climate allow the trees to grow and survive though? I feel like trees would naturally be there if so. Maybe we should instead stop building concrete jungles.

They’re not turning it into a forest they are building a great green wall of trees to stop erosion of the sand and to stop sand storms from covering up farmland. The United States plants trees around urban areas to cool down the cities. If we were to plant trees in the United States desert it could deplete the water table for the desert cites.
