Katniss was 80 feet off the ground and Glimmer shot close enough for Katniss to be able to grab the arrow and mock her with it. Through branches and leaves. I’d say she was actually very good with a bow but Katniss is just so insanely good that she thought Glimmer’s attempt was bad

IMO Glimmer chooses the bow because Cato was more skilled in hand to hand combat. She needed to keep her distance when the careers stopped working together.

Katniss is also so incredibly biased though. Like she regularly shoots squirrels in the eye with ease from yards away. Shes been using the bow for hunting and survival a few times a week for six years at that point. Glimmer is probably better than your average joe, but Katniss is basically Olympic level with the bow.

This! We hear Katniss say she is bad. But that is in the book, where Katniss is between 20-50 ft above her in a tree where Glimmer would be shooting likely pretty straight up. That is incredibly difficult and she hit close enough to Katniss that she was able to grab it. Also she is a career. She would NOT take a weapon she couldn’t use effectively. She would have had her choice.

Katniss is also an unreliable biases 16 year old girl. I’d also think the girl trying to unalive me ain’t shit if she failed 😭 she’s a survivor and a fighter… but katniss is still a teenage girl at the end of the day

Katniss is a 16 year old girl who is angry about glimmer having that bow, multiple times she says “thats my bow.” Im not saying shes unreliable but she is emotional and therefore when glimmer misses an already hard shot katniss wants to point out this flaw

katniss also missed her first shot with tho bow. glimmer may not be an expert shot but she’s probably about as good as Gale. who is said to be far better at trapping and tracking than he is with a bow.

she was probably always trained to shoot at her eye level, that's why she did well in scoring and bloodbath. katniss learned to shoot up too because that's where squirrels and birds are. + she probably missed at training for the same reason katniss did

the careers know how to kill. Katniss knows how to hunt. that is why she has a high proficiency with a hunting weapon. She's gonna see Glimmer as less capable bc she has a different understanding of how the weapon works and how to use it.

"my dad's better than me with a bow" girl your shooting squirrels in the eyes every time. you know how hard that is? and your talk crap to the girl who's shooting straight up which is a challenge in itself. if your dad is better than you I'd be terrified to meet him. you're already a menace as is I dont want to see what he can do with a bow.

The person who calls Glimmer bad with a bow is infamously untrustworthy narrator and famously borderline inhumanely good with a bow Katniss Everdeen, of course she isn't actually bad lol. Everything Katniss says should be taken with several pillars of salt honestly.

Plus if she’s District 2 (or 1 I can’t remember right now) thé game markers are more likely to be paying attention at that point. Someone relatively competent would a stronger score. It’s only compared to Katniss who is next level which makes her look bad

I think Katniss is an unreliable narrator, and that while Glimmer might not be as good with the bow as Katniss (probably because she trained with several different weapon skills), she is still quite good with it.

If Katniss is smart enough to not show her best skill till the private session with game makers what’s to say (some) careers wouldn’t have figured out the same strategy? It is arguably more important that careers keep their plans close to their chest due to the career pack structure they rely on. Maybe glimmer was competent with a bow but that wasn’t even her best weapon, maybe we never even got to see her with her best weapon as she died so early on

and katniss also misses the target during her first shot with the bow. We all understand why katniss needs a minute to recalibrate with a new bow but Glimmer is suddenly terrible for doing the same thing katniss did?

I really hate the trope that the smaller and weaker characters uses bows, bows have insane draw strength you need to be strong to shoot a bow well.

I think her missing helps disprove the alleged “career academies” from the movies. Glimmer more than likely probably trained with a homemade bow (like Katniss) and struggled at first in training to adapt to the Capitol’s bow (again like Katniss)
