The animal head that turns to face you is a model tracking the cursor, every frame you read the mouse x and y, map them to a target rotation on the y and x axes, then ease the current rotation toward that target with a lerp so it follows smoothly instead of snapping, that gentle follow is what makes it feel aware of you.
