@danwhistory: Tank of the Day: M24 Chaffee Named by the British after Major-General Adna R. Chaffee Jr., who was known in the US Army as the “Father of the Armored Force”, the M24 was an American light tank designed to replace the ageing M3 and M5 Stuarts. The Chaffee had a 75mm main gun, impressive for a light tank, between 10-38mm of armour. It weighed just over 18 tonnes, and had a maximum speed of 35mph. It served with the US Army between 1944-53, seeing service in World War II and Korea. It was also used by the British in World War II and after. The French used over 1200 Chaffees, and put them to service in the First Indochina War. Around 28 other countries also used the Chaffee, including South Korea, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, Greece, Spain, Japan, Chile, Turkey, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Uruguay. #m24chaffee #tank #usarmy #ww2 #historytok
