Encik Othman berkata, walaupun peristiwa itu ketika usianya 16 tahun namun ia seolah-olah baru berlaku semalam. Menyorot kembali peristiwa pada 1956 itu, Othman berkata, dia dikunjungi seorang komunis dikenali Ah Chok di tepi sawah padi di Kampung Paya Tebing Tinggi berhampiran Sungai Pahang di sini. Menurutnya, menjadi kelaziman setiap pagi dia membantu ayah, Tawang Mat Isa dan ibu, Meriam Kassim di sawah dan menoreh getah sebagai punca pendapatan utama keluarga mereka ketika itu. Menurutnya, dia terkejut apabila muncul seorang individu mengaku sebagai komunis bersama lima pengikutnya berhasrat menyerah diri kepada kerajaan.

"Walaupun dalam ketakutan dan was-was, saya bersedia membantu dengan syarat dia menulis surat untuk dibawa ke balai polis berdekatan," katanya di Kampung Bohor Baru di sini semalam. Encik Othman berkata, berdasarkan perbualan dengan komunis terbabit, mereka sudah bosan tinggal di hutan, sentiasa dalam ketakutan diburu tentera, kelaparan dan sering sakit kekurangan zat makanan. "Kami berjalan kaki kira-kira enam kilometer menyusuri jalan denai berhutan tebal berhampiran Sungai Pahang. Kira-kira 100 meter dari Balai Polis Karai, saya diminta pergi seorang diri menyerahkan surat untuk menyerah diri kepada polis di balai berkenaan. "Mata-mata pada waktu itu yang dimaklumkan hasrat komunis untuk menyerahkan diri turut terkejut dan meminta saya merampas senapang jenis raifal yang berisi enam peluru yang dibawa oleh Ah Chok. "Setelah berpuas hati, enam komunis itu diberi makan sebelum dibawa menaiki bot polis ke Kuala Bera. Dari sana mereka menaiki trak ke Temerloh. Saya turut serta ke Temerloh sebagai saksi dan semua urusan dokumentasi siap sekitar pukul 5 petang," katanya yang juga bekas Ketua Kampung Bohor Baru.
