There was a role play server on a game called Space Station 13 of Aliens VS Colonial marines where the matches could last for hours and I played one as a medic named Stephen and ended up getting stuck in an outpost siege with one dude called Brian who role played as some one with brain damage who couldn’t remember peoples names so would just call people doc, 4 eyes, etc. We were stuck with around 150 marines in the siege with him consistently dragging people back to safety for me to heal and saying stuff like “Doc need help this one. Doc need hurry”. After almost 3 hours of him bringing people to me, treating mass casualties of 30+ people with only like 6 other medics and Brian doing cpr, and him bringing me and the other medics supplies and food in between waves we finally won the battle but I died in the last moment of the battle. I spectated him in the post round celebration take my body back to the space ship hospital towards the morgue and when a doctor asked what he needed I saw him say someone’s name for the first and last time when he replied “Brian ok. Stephen need rest” and I nearly fucking bawled.

My first ever character was an orc woman named kitch(orcish for trash) and she was never much for words but rolled a nat 20 to preform ballet, and for the first time kitch didn’t feel like dumb trash, she felt like a smart princess

One of my players had a gnoll pup I let him keep as a pet. Campaign went on for 5 years and id hand paint a new mini every once in a while and age him up. He was kind of our comic relief- someone would try and use a map- oh it’s chewed, oh we need to be stealthy, oh of course the pup sees a rabbit and starts screaming like a frenchie, silly stuff like that. Our group chat was named after him. Had a stand in DM one weekend and in battle he killed the pup. Next time we played they were burying the pup because the last dm ended the session after the battle. one of the players, who is usually super awkward with the RP aspect, kneels at the grave says “if monsters do not belong in our afterlife, then I will pray to whatever god or spirit that will send me to wherever they sent you”

I played a goblin Called Scribbus Bibbus. I had only planned to play short term characters that would die pretty quick (dm was okay with it). He made it damn near till the end. We were trying to escape a fight our characters were Ill fitted for. The door had to be held open via a chain for us to escape. The DMs idea was for a summon to do it but hadnt expected us to try and fight for so long. No one had the spell slots for a summon. Scribbus jumped onto the chain to hold it for them. his final words “Sribbus didnt have reason to live for so long. Now scribbus has reason to die. For his family to be safe”

My favorite type of character to play is the silly goofy comic relief tank who gets serious to remind the party that they’re easy to love. Each campaign lets me fall in love with different facets of my dearest friends and I get to express it in new ways. Life is short, and playing characters who wear their heart on their sleeve has helped me do the same.

Bugbear barbarian with the lowest int, literally raised by wolves. We got a circlet of intelligence (they picked it as their birthday item) and after they got it, that night in the city they pulled my character aside as everyone went into the tavern. Asked me if I could be a father to Miip, another player who’s a young goblin who he had been taking care of. He asked me if I could take care of him if he ever died, and I could hear the sadness in everyone’s voices after he managed to get it across
