this might actually be a reasonable use of fMRIs but the assumptions behind the use of fMRI data is very suspect and ultimately has circular logic regarding the assumptions which are now accpeted. definitely not a "larger" region, just more waste showing up

Yes but ignorance or lack of training can also be a factor! You could have a safety officer say something is too dangerous but someone trained will say no it isn’t but someone is untrained doing the job with no oversight and now it becomes dangerous again!
