The problem with high-speed rail in Texas is, while it would be great to get from one city to the other, the cities themselves and the areas surrounding them are so spread out that unless you developed a truly massive public transportation system, you would not be able to navigate the cities once you got there off the high-speed rail. The reason things like that work and some other places is due to their greater density. Thus developing a truly good public transportation system in Texas, as spread out as it cities are in total, will always be very difficult financially. And require a massive infrastructure and investment which so far has not gotten enough support yet.
