@drtoddphillips: If I had to choose between existing in heaven forever and simply ceasing to exist, I’d choose nonexistence. The promise of heaven can feel comforting because it offers reunion with the people we’ve lost. But eternity doesn’t mean a million years or a trillion years. It means existence with no ending, no completion, and no final rest. An eternal heaven I could never leave doesn’t sound like freedom to me. Eventually, even paradise begins to sound like a prison. Would you choose eternal life or nonexistence? #Exvangelical #Agnostic #Deconstruction #EternalLife #Heaven
“The Good Place” really helped me to understand that actually existing forever would be very unsatisfying.

Nobody on plane earth can comprehend how perfect heaven might be.. forever sounds good in place where we can’t even comprehend how perfect it may be.

Nonexistence also never ends. Oh well, the choices you propose aren’t offered. It’s either Heaven or Hell. Nonexistence is not an option, you created that option.

Well those aren’t the two options at stake, it’s either heaven or hell, now which one would you choose?

Eh, I'm an atheist, so I don't have a faith-based argument, but you are making the assumption that time would be experienced linearly like we experience it as humans.

Ataraxia 𓇢𓆸𒄆 :
The concept of existence is something humans invented. We describe and compare it using frameworks we created — worship, meaning, purpose — all filtered through human-made lenses. But what if worship is more like breathing? You live, you act, you experience, all without consciously defining it. My view is that we actually know very little. We project human concepts onto realities we can barely imagine, trying to explain the unexplainable with tools that were built for much smaller questions.

Life is Life :
People don't understand that Heaven isn't the final destination. Heaven is a place holder for the ones that can get in until the NEW Earth is created. New Earth will be just like ours but 10x better. Everyone gets a house, we will still be working but doing things we love. Why will we work? Because working gives us purpose. We HAVE to have purpose. Heaven will become part of Earth. There will be no suffering, we wont grow old and pass away, we would live on Earth as it was intended to be in the 1st place. It will not be a place where we are worshipping God all day everyday. We would have communion, friendship and be able to talk to God whenever. We could travel anywhere we want in the New Earth with just a simple thought. There will be trees that produce new fruit each month. And this is probably the tip of the iceberg. There's probably so much more that we can and will be able to do. God may even make something entirely new for us, something that's not even in the Bible because we don't know all that new Earth will entail.

You're imagining heaven through the lens of our tired, earthly minds. The Bible doesn't describe heaven as an endless, exhausting prayer meeting, it describes it as fullness of joy in God's presence.
