@fukos01: #euro #eu #banknotes #eu #271 The European Central Bank (ECB) just unveiled the 10 shortlisted design proposals for the next generation of Euro banknotes, and they are officially saying goodbye to the iconic fictitious bridges and windows we've been using since 2002! After reviewing over 1,200 submissions from graphic designers across Europe, the ECB narrowed it down to two main themes: European Culture and Rivers & Birds. The European Culture theme brings history and art to life by highlighting iconic figures like Maria Callas on the €5 note, Ludwig van Beethoven on the €10, Marie Skłodowska-Curie on the €20, Miguel de Cervantes on the €50, Leonardo da Vinci on the €100, and Bertha von Suttner on the €200. Meanwhile, the Rivers and Birds theme focuses on nature, freedom, and connection across borders, featuring native wildlife like mountain wallcreepers, kingfishers, white storks, and ocean gannets on the front sides, with key EU institutions like the European Parliament and the ECB on the back. The ECB has opened an official online survey running until September 21, 2026, where European residents can vote on their favorite design concepts before the Governing Council selects the final winner toward the end of the year.
