I have a theory that Mary's mother actually accidentally went into the backrooms. she didnt know what it was so she developed agrophobia because she was just probably walking outside and fell into one. which made Mary's mother not let mary go outside, she was scared that mary was going into a null zone.

Her backstory was sad damn. The door blowing open most likley representing child services coming to take Mary away and locking her mom in a institute and leaving her who knows where. In the dream its just amplified as a big explosion. A life changing explosion.

i personally think that mary's mom fell down to the backrooms and then was interviewed by a-sync. She probably knew they were gonna kill her. I think that this is why she said "they're everywhere"

Mary's mom definitely was trapped in the backrooms at some point and got chased out. The front door was definitely a null zone because she had it blocked it all up. since there was no front door is Mary's backroom house I can only assume to Marys moms perspective she probably explored got chased and went back to the house (their old house) since the zone is unstable theres only a chance to get transported there that's why she was still able to hold events normally in some scenes. Mary's mom got so traumatized while she was trapped in the backrooms she literally dropped EVERYTHING to keep Mary safe. asyc discovered this had her mom institutionalized and studied the null zone but since it was too unstable they figured just demolishing it and selling the land would be better. and Mary definitely has met async because she was WAYY to calm after they revealed who they were.....

sometimes Mary's mother remind me of my own because I know she wants the best for me somehow but she took my her sweet time to drill into my head and make me abandon my 3 only friends. She's stopping me from going out into the real world like Mary's mom
