Honestly, if you look at it logically, Tariq ibn Ziyad was almost certainly Arab. First off, the Umayyad Caliphate was highly centralized and strictly focused on Arab supremacy. They were very particular about appointing only pure Arabs to top military positions, so they wouldn’t just hand over a massive conquest like Spain to someone who wasn't from their own ruling elite.Plus, look at how his life ended. After the conquest of Andalusia, the Caliph called him back to Damascus in the Levant. Tariq lived out the rest of his days there until he passed away, and he never even went back to North Africa. If he were actually Berber, his roots and life would have tied him back to Africa, but his loyalty and permanent home remained in the heart of the Arab empire
