There is a book called "У войны не женское лицо" (I don't know if there is an English translation), written by a Belarusian journalist about the WW2. She found women veterans in Russia who were still alive and told their stories from their perspective about how Soviet soldiers often raped and brutally killed both their own and enemy women and nurses, and the book also tells about the discrimination faced by Soviet women who served in the army and returned.

Well, I mean it depends the rape part I’m not excusing imagine you get shot and you have literally only seen mud and gore and stuff you could presumably only assume most people dying all of a sudden everything just goes black for you and then you wake up to even if she’s not beautiful. It’s literally the most beautiful thing you’ve seen throughout the entire war you’re going to find comfort in it and one of the basic human reactions is to call for mother no matter no circumstance, it’s to call for their mother or father because that was their parent. They know that they could have safety in them so their brain automatically combines this nurse that they are currently seeing the most beautiful thing they have seen in probably the last two years and they’re finding comfort in that and it’s a reflex to call them mother or mom or mama or mommy whatever maybe now it is weird but imagine you’ve literally just got almost half the blood drained out of you and your leg blow blown off and you watched your friend. Literally just turned to dust right in front of your eyes and you had to crawl your way back about halfway through you just a blacked out and you woke up and you just saw a nurse. I know damn well every last one of y’all in this comment section would find comfort in her now it is weird to call somebody Mom when they are not your mom, but I get it when you were delirious and you literally are missing a good portion of blood out of your body and you have not seen that woman this pretty or a woman at least discomforting or literally anything comforting throughout the entire war, you’re going to have that reflex

is there a source for that? i’m not trying to downplay it, i just want to learn more. i couldn’t find anything ab nurses being 🍇d by the soldiers they treated or enemy soldiers. the online Encyclopedia of 1914-1918 does say 🍇 happened during the German invasion of Belgium and France, and it systematically happened to Greeks and Serbians in Macedonia by Bulgarians where the 🍇 was encouraged by officers.
