Iceland walkout! I loved learning about it and I’ve always thought we need to do it again bigger and better.

I had a child on my own, and I really believe that the withholding is effective for men because women would not leave relatives destitute or abandon a child. Men can because they are able to do this cruelty in service of their goals. After years of thought, i have come to believe that the family court system is the ultimate enabler. It is a common refrain that there is no way to make a father be a father, and yet they have “parental rights” to access the child on a regular basis if they choose to exercise it, completely independently of whether they pay support or are in arrears. In fact, attorneys regularly discourage mothers from mentioning any of their labor, and are expected to do the majority of the coordinating, communicating, and all the emotional labor there in to encourage a relationship between the father and the child regardless of the father’s willingness or ability, and without regard to the child’s preferences or any abuse the mother may regularly experience from the father in these exchanges. The mother’s caretaking needs, life, independence, and desires for herself are completely invisible. In fact attempting to address any of these will backfire when other mediation, gals or professionals enter the fray. If we had courts that were truly child centered, then fathers would be accountable for making better choices and prioritizing the children they created. If men thought that they would be forced to do equal labor, equal drop offs and pick ups, equal activities, equal assistance with homework, and give up careers that don’t align with the school schedule or pay for their own arrangements… they may think twice about being so obstinate while in the marriage. It would also solve many issues of compatibility of work schedules and school schedules because there would be alignment of parents advocating for these changes.

My mom (Mormon) would argue that her invisible labor is storing up blessings in heaven.

I wasn’t “allowed” access to my paycheck from the job I was “allowed” to have; taking care of his mother for 11 year while she declined and passed from early onset Alzheimer’s, they built businesses while I provided feee childcare, free home health aid, free domestics labor in two homes. After 16 years of DV I left, be warned all

I haven’t been a follower for long, but as I listen and read so many difficult comments, I’m reflective, for sure. My 65th birthday was last week. Growing up in a household that was always abusive and chaotic (to say the least), I knew, very early that I wanted no part of what I witnessed my mother settle for. I made the choice very young not to get married or have children. I would never be judgy about the desire many women have to couple and parent. I do however, think that women deserve much, much more, on sooooooo many levels, than our system is designed to support, much less endorse. I think women can be each other’s greatest gifts. Unfortunately, this patriarchal society has damaged the ways in which we show up for each other. Female friendships, when engaged in honestly, I believe is a source of our greatest power and well being.

I have young women in my circle and many are much wiser than my generation. Marriage and children are not their #1 priority in life and that makes me so happy.

Stay-at-home mom of 10 years and while my ex built his military career here. He was gone over 50% of the time, I did 100% of the domestic labor, and with 4 kids and one being disabled, the cost of child care prohibited me from having a job. When the abuse started being directed at the kids, and I tried to leave, I was physically punished and tortured. It took me years to figure out I was being poisoned and had to leave before ever building an exit. The abuse never stopped. He has been completely enabled by the court system, despite findings of DV. I can’t stress enough how finding a different way to be a mother (getting paid thru foster care etc) or care for kids in another way really could save us. My only hope was drawing half of his military retirement, but he got out on “disability” and now gets 7k a month to financially abuse, harm the kids to abuse me while paying off the court and secret-sexual partners (he’s closeted gay) to keep me in poverty ever since. I’ve never been able to gain an ounce of stability due to every form of abuse and harassment being thrown at me constantly, and my kids have suffered the most. He does not care about them and is sadistic. It’s a horror I wouldn’t wish on any woman. We have to find another way.

As a mother I would do man less motherhood. I planned and was ready for my son. I wasted time and money with the husband.

We have to start with our sons first. Teaching them when they are young. Having children outside of “marriage” will not work. It will just allow some men to run free and wild.

Agreed. And it needs to be said that “motherhood” extends beyond a traditional expectation for most. The dynamics of our world is changing so fast. Why shouldn’t we support our young ? I’m tired of the antiquated boot straps mentality

Could you IMAGINE, if we just went out into the world when WE decide we want a baby, and went out and just picked whoever we wanted (TOTAL control and consent) to sleep with, with the intention of having children....you know, the way it's supposed to be......THE OUTRAGE. 😏 💜💜💜💜💜

Oh it’s definitely not working. The ppl benefiting most from it don’t appreciate it at all. I think withholding is where it’s at

Oh, I would definitely stop doing things for my husband, but I only take care of my children. They can cook for themselves to their own laundry, clean up after themselves buy their own food. It would all stop.

An acquaintance of mine has two kids with a man that is very low income. So low that HE qualifies for WIC(because on paper, he is a single father) but refuses to take the benefits because of his pride. Mean while, the mom works from home and pays for everything while taking care of the children too just barely able to scrape by.
