Last night we had an incident with the ANP (Afghani National Police). A 120mm mortar round was fired w/o warming while I was on tower guard. I was given the command of shoot these motherfuckers by the SOG. Unfortunately, an unmarked ANP truck was creeping in front of the EEP. After the flash and boom of the mortar tube, they were mistaken for some kind of suicide bomber. I reacted without hesitation and shot 4 ANP. Today 2fury6 and 2fury9 are coming to 4 corners and I’m being investigated for shooting the ANP. My chain of command says that there was no escalation of force and I just fired. That’s what the fuck I’m trained to do. Hey, it’s a war, right? People die. I did my fucking job with speed and accuracy and I’m fucking good at this shit. It’s a strange thought to process. May 24. This evening at 18:00 we heard the ANP checkpoint to the east take heavy contact. At one point they went cyclic with their machine guns. I was under the impression that the checkpoint was being overrun by the Taliban there was so much gunfire. The firefight went on for half an hour when we started taking incoming mortar/rocket fire. Until we were given the command to get inside one of the building. Everyone just stood around and talked while they listened to the fire fight going on in the distance. We piled up inside the building and waited for an all clear. The mortar team fired up their guns and began firing 120mm munitions. This is the first time I’ve ever watched the mortar tube fire. The flash is blinding and the concussion rattled my chest. I’m going to clarify the events of last night.
