@cortechnology: STOP throwing away your old routers. That old WiFi router sitting in a drawer could become one of the most useful devices in your entire setup. By installing free firmware like OpenWrt and configuring WireGuard, you can transform it into a private VPN server that gives you secure access to your home network from virtually anywhere in the world. Once it’s set up, you can safely connect to your home network while traveling, encrypt your internet traffic on public WiFi, access files stored on your home server, manage smart home devices, remotely log into your desktop, or reach self hosted applications without exposing them directly to the internet. It’s a practical cybersecurity project that teaches real networking skills while extending the life of hardware most people would otherwise throw away. Whether you’re interested in homelabs, Linux, ethical hacking, or simply improving your online privacy, this is one of the highest value DIY networking projects you can build using hardware you probably already own. #cybersecurity #homelab #networking #fyp #viral

Or just install tailscale on every device and use an exit node on your home network

Is there much benefit of having VPN servers in your own house? If anything it just puts all your traffic in one place for your internet provider to see, only benefit is when your out sending unencrypted stuff over WiFi or whatever but that’s not the case often

I never understand why wireguard is "easy" to configure. Tried it on tp link omada routers. Way more complicated than the good old open vpn server to me. Yes its faster but easier? No way.
