this also indirectly contributes to OCD stigma: people with OCD are only allowed to talk about cleaning or hypochondria despite intrusive thoughts being a huge part of it. people with POCD and related subtypes are genuinely unable to talk about it

If you don't support pdfs who get treatment then you don't support victims! A lot of CSA victims develop paraphilias like this from trauma, it's a cycle.

it’s a weird slippery slope that people aren’t willing to inform themselves on and talk about, remember that teacher that said her inner kid was attracted to one of her students bc she thinks he’s a cool kid, the brain is so complex if you let it be but people forget attraction isn’t always sexual, if anything people don’t understand their own intrusive thoughts and simply act on them because after a while of bottling it all up (not speaking to anyone about it) the body has to manifest it to reality because of all the thought they put into it, now we have an offender and a victim all because people aren’t willing to listen

I really do agree with the sentiment of this video, but as someone who's been to MULTIPLE therapists to treat my own paraphilia all of them have taught me that no paraphilia is inheritently disordered, not even ones that would be harmful to genuinely act on in real life (it is only disordered if it causes distress to the petson with those thoughts, and the distress cannot stem from ideas related to purity culture). If we really want to help paraphiles get better and for vulnerable populations to be more safe from abuse from paraphiles you have to stop treating our attraction like something that needs be be cured and instead treat it like any other form of attraction.

the thing is that treatment can help reduce future victims, so I cannot understand people who are against treatment. like that always blows my mind. they'd rather just let more kids be hurt and take their anger out on the perpetrators than let people get treatment to avoid harm.

I saw a documentary many years ago, i think i wad in middle school and as CSA survivor myself it didnt sit right with me at first but it made complete sense to what you’re saying right now. It was about a preteen who confided in his parents that he gas thoughts of sexually harming his little sisters. His parents were able to get him help and intervene before things actually escalate which is 100 times more beneficial to everyone involved primarily the sisters who ended up not getting hurt because of the early intervention. Also this is different but after surviving CSA, i ended up developing POCD, which was the most hurtful thing i have ever gone through. So yes i believe those struggling with thoughts of harming others, no matter who or how, should def get treatment before things escalate and we get victims. Rehabilitation is a cure that could change our world if we intervene in a timely manner. With our current laws and legislations, we know predators will end up leaving prison after a while and becoming a threat once again to society, so we should rethink our approach.
