The thing is she literally said in SA that she’s classed as coloured & in the U.S. she’d be called mixed or black. It’s not like she was asking or telling americans to refer to her as coloured. Americans exceptionalism is so rampant it’s insane.

Tyla is better than me because, after that Breakfast Club interview, I would have walked right through Times Square wearing an "I'm a coloured baddie, now what?!" T-shirt. There is no way anyone is going to make me feel bad about my identity! I really think she did her absolute best to navigate that situation and accommodate them while holding her ground.
