This is the fall of Saigon. Captain Larry Chambers was the first African-American Captain of an aircraft carrier in the United States Navy and he just recently took over command in the theater of the USS Midway. His standing orders were to provide air cover for the evacuation. When it became clear that air cover was no longer needed, he ordered the helicopters pushed into the ocean and allowed a small private Cessna to land on the aircraft carrier. Larry Chambers would later recall that when he made the decision to violate standing orders and push all the military equipment into the ocean that he was confident that he was going to face a court-martial, but felt it was the right thing to do at the time.

if this is the USS Hancock I was there. the hangerbay was packed with Vietnamese refugees and marines from Hawaii. the choppers are left by the army.
