Can I ask a real question? What is the general issue that the black communities in TX have with James Talarico? I mean, it seems like the issue was that he wasn’t doing enough outreach, and he said,” yeah, you’re right” and then he committed to doing more black outreach. Am I wrong? Is there something else? Especially in the face of a possible Paxton victory which is genuinely terrifying. I’m not black and I’m not from TX so I don’t presume to understand, but I’d like to.

Look, if you were out here making this content being critical of Talarico, and it was like two weeks before the polls opened, I’d be irritated. What I’ve taken from your videos, even the ones I don’t fully agree with or understand, is that you’re seeking to promote education and DIALOGUE about the upcoming election **BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE TO HAVE A SAY**. We’re supposed to tell our elected representatives what we expect from them. It’s a job interview. This is quite literally the time and the place to ask questions, challenge policy you don’t agree with, and make your voice known. No one can deliver on expectations that we don’t clarify. What you’re doing is not unproductive or nihilistic. It’s responsible taxpayer behavior.

I used to convince people to vote by pointing out that in non-presidential elections less than 30% of eligible voters vote. That means that 7 outa 10 people allow my opinion to matter more than theirs. Thanks!

No matter what you say on TikTok, there is going to be a percentage of people that just grasp on to the negativity part and they make it toxic. Because there’s a huge percentage of young people on this app that do not exercise their right to vote or they vote third-party so when you say anything about either party, they take it and run with it, and justify their decision not to vote.

I've been working on an idea of a video as a response to this problem and want to be as respectful as possible. Susan B Anthony and Ida B Wells both made huge impacts on the Suffrage movement, and we haven't given Wells the credit she deserves. but if people used that as a reason to not go vote, black women AND white women wouldn't have the right to vote. the history of all our rights are not long and can easily be lost. I saw another black creator mention that black people have been experiencing fascism since their history here, and white people are scared now that it's coming for them. he's not wrong!! but by refusing to vote we lose all those gains. and it shouldn't be on the shoulders of black voters. they're in a seat of power, at this moment! they should hold Talarico to account, but while they do it, realize he's only a man. we need him to lift up other black representation right now so that if he fails, the black community hasn't lost.
