@ezroller1976: This is the iconic Yasaka Pagoda (Hōkan-ji), one of Kyoto’s most famous landmarks. The photo was taken on Yasaka Kamimachi Street (八坂上町) in the historic Higashiyama district, near the picturesque streets of Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka, which lead to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. The five-story wooden pagoda stands about 46 metres (151 feet) tall. Although the original temple was founded in the 7th century, the current pagoda dates back to 1440. It is one of the oldest and most recognisable structures in Kyoto. The traditional wooden buildings lining the street are known as machiya, giving this area its unique atmosphere and making it one of the most photographed locations in Japan. Kyoto is written in Japanese as 京都 (Kyōto). The name literally means “Capital City,” reflecting its role as Japan’s imperial capital for more than 1,000 years (794–1868). #kioto #japan #asia #
