@oneupmoto: Good To Know: If your needle doesn’t have a clip, you can shim it with fuel mixture screw washers. 1-2 shims will fix any flat spots, bogging, or hesitation in the mid range. The needle influences almost all throttle positions, so thoroughly test the full range after each adjustment. It’s often not enough when tuning to just change jets, the needle position usually needs to be changed as well! Most carbureted bikes have these and this is an essential part of tuning them 👌 #motorcycle #mechanic #automotive #fyp #tuning
How do you know when it needs to be leaner or richer

You do this after finding your main jet and configured the air to fuel ratio right?

As a professional who has worked on literally thousands of carbs in my career, in most cases, moving the clip on the needle is the last step in setting up a carb. Moving the clip one position is the equivalent of changing the main jet 3 to 4 sizes. If you are tuning you carb for mild to moderate performance packages it is always better to change main jets to accomplish what your after. Most the time you will get what you need with a simple main jet change. Once you move that needle clip then you have to start over selecting the proper main jet for your application.

I have this problem where the "barrel" that holds the needle gets stuck on the idle screw because i pull it too high , the barrel just keeps rotating and nothing holds it in place , is this because of the carb construction or am i missing something ?

So I’ll just use my needle if I don’t have any jets?

gribens :
air screw is to tune pilot jet, just find near full 2 turns in air screw
and needle for main jet, we simply start at the top to mid clip/lock, if its still lean, just change the clip going down, and if its still lean when its in the mid, put bigger main the put the clip back at the top then same process
