I live in Mexico & use coconut oil both for cooking & for moisturizing (different jars). My oil melts & solidifies several times through the year as the weather changes. It has *never* solidified in little round circles.

former cosmetic lab tech here: there needs to be water present for mold to form. the chunks you see are likely due to the rate in which the oil melted and resolidified. temperature control when cooling solid or semi-solid oils has an impact on the texture of the final product. I've seen this happen with lip balms, body butters, and salves. usually when they contain solid coconut oil, cocoa butter, or shea butter. this is not mold imo.

I am a chemist and Cook Islander - those are microcrystals and they're not uncommon to see whem temperature is cold but not quite cold enough to solidify the whole bottle of oil. If the temperature kept dropping the entire bottle will solidify, and as it warms up the crystals will melt again.
