At the university of Toledo, there’s a program called cosmetic science of formulation design in the College of pharmacy. There are cosmetic science students there doing research testing out using ultramarine blue as a color replacement in foundations so that they can actually create a wider range of deeper skin tones and a wider range of lighter skin tones. Right now we use black iron oxide, along with red and yellow pigments, and those create more of like a gray cast in deeper skin tone foundations. Using the blue is more aligned with color theory. And I agree with you, there should be a lot more shade ranges for deeper skin tones.
