I think having markers on the image would help me visualize better 😭 also is this opposite in a cross table lateral knee?

Natalie Schulz :
Half of the fibula should be superimposed over the tibia! If the fibula is too far back, roll the patient back. If the fibula is too far forward, roll the patient forward.

I’ve been a tech for 10 years and idk how to explain this but I just KNOW how to fix it. 😂 I had a student ask one time and I said “idk I just go with my heart”

so just to confirm, 11 means bring the knee back (away from the IR) and a triangle means bring the knee towards the IR? i think?

The medial condyle is more nobbly (green line) due to the medial abductor tubercle and the lateral is more smooth (red line). If the smoother lateral condyle is more posterior to the nobbly medial condyle on the image, it’s too externally rotated and vice versa 😁 this really helped me to correct my positioning

On the second image you can see the adductor tubercle most anterior, meaning the medial condyle is more anterior. Wouldn’t that image still be too much external rotation? Along with seeing a decent amount of the fibular head?

Look at the proximal fibula. More fibula=move away from the table to fix

So the first one would need to be pushed more towards or away from the IR/bucky?

If the condyles are not superimposed and you see posteriorly : 1. an O shaped condyle - over rotated 2.the bumpy U condyle - under rotated

Easiest way is to just look at the space between the tib fib

I think if it this way. This example is too externally rotated as the fibula is exiting the back.

Been a tech for 20 years and no one has ever mentioned the 11 and the triangle. Huh! Learn something new every day.

You're correct with the 11 sign and triangle sign but the second image you provided doesn't show a triangle sign. The lines never create a point. I found a photo of one that does though and I highlighted the point of the triangle!
