@cancersurvivingmama: A little look into my 3-day hospital stay after DIEP flap reconstruction 🤍 After getting breast cancer in my 20’s and having my double mastectomy, I tried implants for 5 years. In short, they sucked health wise 😆 so I needed to get them removed & DIEP flap reconstruction surgery was the only option left to having 🍒. This surgery is so extensive I went to multiple surgeons & states trying to find one capable of it and finally found one Duke Hospital 🙌🏼 DIEP flap is where surgeons use your own tissue (along with the blood vessels that keep it alive) to reconstruct your breasts. It’s a huge surgery that took about 10 hours for me, followed by a few days in the hospital so they could constantly monitor blood flow. You’re chipped, stapled & bruised in every which way from your pelvic to your chest. There was one unexpected complication while I was there though..
