A liver shunt, also known as a portosystemic shunt (PSS), is an abnormal blood vessel that allows nutrient-rich but toxic blood from the digestive tract to bypass the liver instead of being filtered. Without surgery, Amara will die. Amaras liver values are extremely raised and as you can see in photos his eyes are turning a cooper colour indicating the toxins piling up in his body, slowly killing him. As you can imagine, this isn't a surgery to be taken lightly. Before we can even proceed, he needs a CT scan to determine exactly where the shunt is.
