@keepthemeterrunning: I hailed a cab and met Hanny, a fellow Egyptian who’s been in the States since 1985! This is one of the most personal episodes of Keep The Meter Running. As I got to know Hanny, I ended up opening up about my own private struggles. He gave me some great advice about fatherhood and raising an Egyptian-American child.
what a bar!!! “Nothing too late, nothing mistake” 😭

HANNY!!!! I grew up on 1st Ave and Hanny worked at the Egyptian restaurant directly across the street. That was the safe place I went after school and waited for my parents to get home. He also was driving a cab then too. Sometimes I would be out in the city as far as 145th Street and I would hear my name shouted in that accent. He would be at a red light shouting “it’s Hanny! Come, I will take you home!” And he would drive me home without charge. He is a good man and was a great neighborhood friend. This is over 25 years ago. I am glad to see him and see him happy in this video. Hi Hanny! 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Loved this, I remembered my ninas apartment in Giza with all her furniture in the ‘salon’ that wasn’t for us to sit on. After she passed my uncle sold it and I’ll never see it again, never smell those smells, never see the furniture, never hear her birds tweeting from the balcony 💔 but at least we have the memories
