@sandiegomag: Scenes from Slamarack 2026 last night. During this annual moment of mayhem, hundreds of groms take over Carlsbad’s Tamarack Beach to enjoy a bit of controlled chaos. Soft tops, rafts, inner tubes, kiddie pools—any vessel that floats is fair game. Then, when the swell reaches just the right height, everyone attempts to ride a party wave to shore. (Key word: attempts.) The scene that follows is a live blooper reel. Boards are suddenly airborne. Rafts take flight like water park rides gone wrong. Kids in Spider-Man suits do involuntary somersaults. Boogie boards crash like bumper cars. Someone somewhere plays a vuvuzela to announce the next wave. It’s premium pandemonium. Nature’s spin cycle. Are there minor injuries? Occasionally. The local lifeguards are always on deck and carefully watching. But with the main rule being “only foamies on the foam” (nothing especially hard or pokey) and a general commitment to crashing gently, things stay pretty footloose and fancy-free.
