Rule number one in cruising you never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever get a guaranteed room. always pick your room after looking at floor plans including any obstructions, near pool, theater and fitness center

I took a guaranteed obstructed view verandah and got upgraded to a spa verandah room. Sometimes it works out, sometimes less so

We did a guaranteed on Icon. They put us on deck 13 directly under the Windjammer. It was rough. The plus though was the over hang that provided a lot of shade.

I’m in enemy territory!! I’ve been on 23 cruises and guaranteed staterooms are my life hack. You can save sooo much. And I’ve never had one that ruined my experience. One caveat is your case, though. For an itinerary like Alaska, unless the obstructed balcony was less than an inside or oceanview (which it absolutely could be), I probably would have just paid for the lesser room OR if having the view out my room was that important, I would have paid the extra for the good balcony.

Guaranteed means they guarantee you'll have a balcony (of some level) or better. Why would you assume the cheapest category of balcony booking would get you unobstructed view?
