@nicknamed.bree: Part 16 of Avoidant Translator. I challenge you to take a look through the avoidant lens today, maybe noticing (without the smudges of judgment) how unaligned this feels with your own perspective & values. #avoidant #avoidantattachment
As an Anxious person, I wish more anxious people would hear this, leaving is an option.

I wish avoidant people would understand that relationships don’t bring happiness 24/7 but it shouldn’t mean the relationship needs to end because someone is unhappy in the moment or for a season or because of a disappointment.

I feel like if there is a relationship where you’re constantly nitpicking something that somebody’s doing even if they’re doing something wrong it’s not right. People deserve to exist exactly as they are and that’s usually a sign that you’re not compatible once in a while is obviously normal ,but if it it’s all the time there’s a problem.

I’ve encountered this too many times in my last relationship. Tried to work past it, tried to hold space for it. In the end, the understanding and patience and willingness to fix things didn’t extend my way, and I decided to walk away.

leaving at the first sign is weakness imo. I'm human, and I make mistakes. why wouldn't I give another person that same understanding?

So many times I’ve gone with “just leave” and only very recently realized it was all part of avoidant behavior. I’m glad to understand myself better but so sad to realize the damage I did to relationships and people who authentically wanted to love me.

as an FA who leans avoidant the more and more relationships progress: the hyper independence and positive view of self is a front that we don't even know is a front to cover up our core wounds.

I said this but I said this to my avoidant. He wouldn’t move the relationship forward and continued to pick me apart meanwhile I went to therapy, constantly gave him the benefit of the doubt, and had the patience of a saint. So yeah…. Sometimes when he would nitpick me over something like how I held a grocery bag I told him to leave me. Being with one long term felt like being back into a corner where I couldn’t even exist.

When I make meaning out of trivial things mine tells me to think with my brain/logic as opposed to my heart. He’s so cool

I have SO many thoughts. My boyfriend of two years (in our 30s, lived together, looked at rings) left me during my miscarriage. I was completely disposed of, left to heal on my own and when I begged for support was screamed at or hung up on or told “I don’t want you”. I’m wondering if this is consistent with DA behavior, which he is, confirmed with a couples therapist, or if this is something else altogether? Truly the pain is basically insurmountable and has destroyed me.

Why didn't the avoidant just leave? Oh right, he liked having unfettered access to my labor and body without having to put any effort or energy into fulfilling my relationship needs/wants.
