This does not mean a married couple should abandon or dishonour their parents. It means the marriage must now have its own identity, its own boundaries, and its own priorities. Parents, your married children still need your wisdom, prayers, and support, but they do not need you to run their home. Do not allow your opinions, expectations, or constant interference to become a source of conflict between your child and their spouse. Do not force your married son or daughter to choose between you and their spouse. You raised them to become adults; now give them the room to build their own home. And couples, remember: leaving and cleaving also means learning to stand together, communicate with each other, and protect the unity of your marriage.
