When I went on holiday I went to a old school gym, they had some old rusty metal dumbbells, they felt really heavy, I’m really sure different gyms different weight

It’s correct. I did 110kg barbell shoulder press and did the same at Wandsworth prison with metal plates when I was there.

People don’t factor in other stuff like the benches bar etc a lot of commercial gyms have thr bench assistance to move the bar forward making it easier to lift off and they might confuse that with the weight being lighter because less energy was used
