Not so fun fact: herring gulls are monogamous, meaning they mate for life. This was either his bond or his mum, also, gulls can live for 20-30 years with their bond ☹️they experience lethargy and abandonment of their nests. They will call loudly at their nest in hope to attract their partner, thinking they’re just resting.

the saddest part about (wild) animal deaths to me is when it comes to monogamous animals (or animals who lose their babies/mother) who grieve, they can’t bury them. they have to just walk away and move on at some point. i know they don’t process the concept of “closure” like we do. but from a human pov, it’s just so sad how cold nature is and how they’ll sit in the rain watching the cars pass while their mate or family member lays there lifeless and has to eventually be left behind. and honestly the fact that they don’t process a conscious sense of “closure” like we do is sadder despite how emotionally intense it is for us. because they feel it, but they don’t understand. and they can never understand. the one they love is just gone and won’t wake up.
