@businessblurb: Bill Gates went on Letterman in 1995 to explain the internet and the whole room laughed at him. He was 40 years old, worth $15 billion, the richest man alive. Dave asked what the internet actually was. Gates said people publish there, send electronic mail, find others who share their interests. Dave calleed it the troubled loner chat room and the crowd roared. #Tech #entrepreneur #business #nostalgia #motivation
People laughed at the internet. People laughed at cell phones. People laughed at smartphones. People laughed at crypto. People are laughing at AI.

A crowd at a Letterman taping in no way represents reality here. The majority of people who weren’t in their sunset years in 1995 at least somewhat understood how revolutionary the internet could be.

Letterman here reminds me a lot of people’s modern day perspective on AI. Just completely unable to see the big picture.

And guess what - the internet is now long gone beyond its helpful side, and is breaking people and society. So will AI, but much worse.

For those saying this is how some are talking about AI now, life was better back then - we had magazines and shared human experiences

I remember somebody telling me about a new type of camera that saved images electronically. The camera could be connected to a computer, and the images transferred to the computer. Then the images could be emailed to anywhere in the world. It blew my mind and I've never stopped thinking about it.
